WEBINAR - Navigating Cultural Situations with CSE Eyes

Join the RJC Academy for a discussion about the tricky situations that you have faced, or wondered about in Japan/Japanese culture.

The RJC Academy's Culture Specific Evangelism (CSE) 201 class has been working through Dr. Kikawa's book The Cross Cultural Evangelism Game where the reader is faced with different, potentially challenging cultural situations and has to decide how would they would respond in light of God's Word and as loving ambassadors of Christ in a foreign setting.

In CSE 201 we then look at Japanese-specific examples and write up some new questions of our own. These questions have spurred discussion on other cultural situations that we might face, words that may or may not be beneficial to try to use to be more relatable and uncertainty about the Japanese understanding of certain terms we might like to try. We would love for you to join us and share your experiences and thoughts on situations that one might face in ministering in Japan.

Examples:
  • What do you do when you have been invited to tour a temple with a new Japanese friend and are given coins to throw, instructions on how to clap and bow and/or incense to burn?
  • What do you do when invited to attend a Japanese funeral? Do you burn incense and pray to the deceased?
  • Do you dance at an Obon Odori taking place in your community?
  • Should you accept an Omamori that is given to you by a friend you are trying to disciple? Do you keep it?

Join us for a zoom call to discuss these kinds of questions and more!
